Description
This is a simpler painting designed for my music series based on a song by Elvis that he sang in "It Happened At the World's Fair"
The heart was created in an interesting way. I worked for a photograph that I took. I wanted a unique sort of heart to be broken, so I went to my local hobby shop and bought a couple of molds, one larger than the other. I mixed red food coloring and water for the smaller mold and froze it. Then I put the frozen result from that mold into a larger mold with clear water and froze the two together. I laid the frozen heart onto some blue fabric and shone a blue light underneath the heart and photographed it and then interpreted the photo for the painting.
This painting, it occurs to me, since it uses red, white, and blue, could also have a political significance since America seems to be something to be "given away" as recently happened when the President secretly gave away, without the knowledge of Alaska, a series of islands rich in billions of barrels of oil, to Russia. And yes, it broke my heart that the United States didn't even receive a penny for this treachery..
