Artist's Description

Another painting in my series based on songs and song titles. This one on the famous song popularized by Arlo Guthrie and later by Willie Nelson. I had the choice of referencing either the lyrics describing the outdoors or the things going on inside the train. Obviously I chose to reference "houses, farms, and fields", "the graveyards of the rusted automobile", and "freight yards full of old black men" although admittedly my freight yard isn't that full.

My artistic influences include fantasy illustrators from the "Brandywine" school of Howard Pyle to the best comic book artists of today. I get my inspiration from such widely diverse sources as the absurd, music, classic movies, myth, pin-up, fantasy literature, and my Catholic sensibilities.
