Artist's Description
I did this painting in 1989 of a friend of mine who is now a professional makeup artist with credits on the international movie data base. Included in the painting is a portrait of her and a number of the things I remember about her from back then. One of her loves is music so the magnolias represent the Grateful Dead's song "Sugar Magnolia". And she turned me on to David Bowie who is also in the painting. She was also into fantasy and so I added the jester, the unicorn, the knight and castle, and the bat. And up in the top left corner is her cat "Cagney" and a mini-portrait of Jack Keroac, who she also turned me on to (I love On the Road!). Oh, and held in the unicorn's mouth is the Holy Bible.
About Bryan Bustard
I consider myself primarily an illustrator. I never quite fit in with others, so I grew up isolated and found much of my comfort in movies, comic books, music, and books. My artistic influences include fantasy illustrators from the "Brandywine" school of Howard Pyle to the best comic book artists of today. I get my inspiration from such widely diverse sources as the absurd, music, classic movies, myth, pin-up, fantasy literature, and my Catholic sensibilities. For a number of my original pieces, feel free to purchase some more modestly priced ones at my Etsy page. I may be adding more as time goes on. https://www.etsy.com/shop/bryanbartist?ref=hdr_shop_menu More than willing to do commissions, I am adept at portraiture of...
